KIK Papua New Guinea Delegation Conducts Technical Visit to Indonesia on Coconut Value-Added Products

A delegation from Kokonas Indastri Koporesen (KIK) of Papua New Guinea comprising Mr. Alfred Kembu and Mr. Michael Molly Kevin conducted a technical visit to Indonesia from 11–16 May 2026 to strengthen their knowledge and practical understanding of coconut value-added industries. The visit was facilitated as part of efforts to enhance technical cooperation and capacity development in the coconut sector between the two countries.

The technical visit commenced on 11 May 2026 in Bogor, where the delegation visited Kopyor Bogor. During the visit, the delegation observed firsthand the advancements in coconut-based agro-tourism and coconut kopyor embryo culture development. They also learned about the cultivation, processing, and marketing of kopyor coconut products, as well as the business development strategies implemented by the company.

From 12–13 May 2026, the delegation continued their program in Sukabumi by visiting CV Cakrawala Pasir Gancleng. The delegation received hands-on technical exposure on coconut sugar production, including sap collection, processing techniques, quality control, packaging, and marketing aspects. The visit provided valuable insights into community-based coconut sugar enterprises and their contribution to rural livelihoods.

On 15 May 2026, the delegation held a discussion meeting with Dr. Jelfina C. Alouw in Bogor. The discussion focused on strengthening collaboration in coconut industry development, value addition, market opportunities, and technical cooperation initiatives among coconut-producing countries.

The technical visit concluded on 16 May 2026 with a visit to House of Charcoal Indonesia, where the delegation learned about the production process of coconut shell charcoal-based shisha briquettes. The delegation observed various stages of production, including shell carbonization, briquette manufacturing, quality standards, and export potential of charcoal briquette products.

The visit provided the KIK delegation with practical knowledge and valuable experience on downstream coconut processing technologies and business opportunities that could support the development of the coconut industry in Papua New Guinea.
